The Forum of Swiss History is an education destination for Swiss culture and history, and features interactive exhibits and exciting events. It is dedicated to issues concerning the foundation of Switzerland and addresses current topics in temporary exhibitions.

Main exhibition

The permanent exhibition ‘Switzerland in the Making’ focuses on the foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy. Designed as an adventure tour and featuring impressive scenography, the exhibition turns your visit into an adventure. You are immersed in a bygone world: you will meet a mounted knight in battle armour, hear a monk dictating in the scriptorium, and ‘stroll’ along a virtual mule track over the Splügen Pass. At the end of the exhibition, you can dress up as a knight, squire or damsel and have your picture taken.

Two temporary exhibitions a year

Selected objects, interactive media stations and information in four languages (D, F, I, E) make the Forum one of the most important cultural history museums in the Alpine region. You can also discover the permanent exhibition with the audio guide of the free "Forum Schwyz" app on your own smartphone (bring your headphones). I-Pods with the audio guide are available for hire. In the temporary exhibition, in the basement of the museum, current topics are taken up and presented in a timely manner. Exciting guided tours, in-depth programmes and varied events complement the exhibitions. Interesting books and gifts on the exhibitions can be found in the museum shop. Admission and guided tours are free of charge for Swiss school classes.
